ASHAIMAN MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY ENGAGES THE PUBLIC ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND EARLY CHILDHOOD MARRIAGE

The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, on Thursday, 24th October 2025, held a lively community sensitization program at the Ashaiman Main Market to raise awareness about domestic violence and early childhood marriage. The event was led by the Assembly’s Gender Desk Officer and Assistant Director, Madam Juliet Selasi Ahorbo.

The outreach brought together a large and engaged audience, primarily market women, buyers, and school children, who actively participated in discussions. The program featured key resource persons including Detective Chief Inspector Samuel Hlordzi and Lance Corporal Maxwell Boateng from the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service. They were joined by Mr. Maxwell Ankrah from the Department of Social Welfare and Madam Patience Amenuku, Adolescent Coordinator at the Ashaiman Municipal Health Directorate, as well as Assistant Directors and staff of the Assembly.

Speakers addressed the root causes, consequences, and reporting procedures for domestic violence and child marriage, while encouraging victims and witnesses to speak up and seek support. The interactive nature of the session sparked meaningful conversations among participants, reflecting the community’s growing commitment to protecting women and children.

In her closing remarks, Madam Ahorbo reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to ongoing public education and collaboration with relevant stakeholders to promote gender equality, empower women, and safeguard the rights and welfare of all children in the municipality.
