40TH NATIONAL FARMERS DAY CELEBRATION 2024
The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra region has adjudged 44-year old, Daniel Adi Siada, as the Municipal best farmer at the 40th edition of the national farmers’ day celebration held at the Sakasaka Park on Friday, 8th November, 2024.
He cultivated 8 acres of maize, 2 acres of coconut plantain, 1 acre onion, 1 acre of okra, 1 acre pepper, 11 cows, 17 goats, 10 sheep, 41 local birds, 10 glass cutters. Mr Adi Siada, who is married with three children and a junior high school lever, is also a carpenter by profession.
He took home a motor-king tricycle, wellington boots, spraying machine, television set among others.
The theme for this year’s event, is “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security”, highlights the nation’s commitment to adapting agricultural practices in response to climate change challenges.
Speaking at the colourful event, the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, Albert Boakye Okyere said: “as we face the realities of climate change, it is imperative that we focus our efforts on creating an agricultural system that can withstand its impact while ensuring that all Ghanaians have access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food.”
To improve climate-resilience, the MCE added that, the government must invest in building climate resilient agriculture through the adaptation of innovative practices that enhances the ability to adapt to changing conditions.
He lauded the farmers for adopting innovative ways of farming to champion food security.
“In Ashaiman, our farmers are not just producers; they are innovators, custodians of our land, and champions of food security. Your hard work sustains us all, and today we honor you for your contribution”, he stated.
He assured the government’s commitment to supporting the farmers in the implementation of initiatives to promote sustainable agriculture, including the planting for food and jobs, the provision of fertilizers and seedlings to over 1,800 in the municipality.
The government, he added, is poised to continue to provide training programmes, financial assistance, and resources to empower the farmers in adopting these practices in the next administration.
Mr Boakye Okyere also seized the opportunity to appeal other corporate organization within the municipality and well-meaning Ghanaians to generously support and appreciate the invaluable contribution farmers continue to make.
