Ashaiman Municipal Assembly Embarks on Decongestion Exercise
The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly has embarked on an operation to decongest the principal streets in the Municipality of traders who have occupied the space and disrupting other road users.
The exercise which begun on 24th January, 2023 has witness fifteen (15) people arrested for various sanitation offenses in the streets. Out of the fifteen who have been arrested have been fine by the Ashaiman District Court for One Hundred and Twenty (120) penalty Units which translates to One Thousand Two Hundred Ghana Cedis (Ghc 1,200.00).
The Assembly started to clear the streets from Saturday 21st through to Monday 23rd January 2023 with warnings to those traders but some recalcitrant ones resurfaced on 24th January hence their arrest and prosecution at the court to pay the 120 penalty units.
It has also been revealed that out of the 15 people arrested, Joyce Kankam and Josephine Attipoe have absconded and all efforts are underway to rearresting them to face the law.
Unlawful occupation of the principal streets of the Municipality is becoming unbearable as a result the Assembly is embarking on the exercise clear those recalcitrant occupiers.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Albert Boakye Okeye who is leading the exercise has said that the exercise will continue until the street of Ashaiman becomes clear and clean.
