ASHAIMAN MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY MEETS WITH NAA AMUI MARKET LEADERS OVER RELOCATION CHALLENGES
The Management of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Freeman Tsekpo, met with the leadership and management of Naa Amui Market at the Ashaiman Underbridge, on the 21st October 2026 and the municipal Assembly Hall.
The engagement centered on deliberations on challenges arising from the ongoing motorway construction and its impact on the market and trader’s livelihood.
Discussions objectively, focused on the relocation of affected traders, efforts to identify suitable spaces on the unaffected side of the market to sustain livelihoods and economic activities, and concerns surrounding a reclaimed parcel of land.
Following extensive deliberations, the participants agreed that all relocation-related activities, including matters concerning allegations of financial extortion against the market leadership and management, should be put on hold pending further engagement.
It was further agreed that the Assembly’s committee responsible for the relocation of traders, led by the Urban Roads Engineer, would meet with the market leadership on-site on Friday, 23rd October, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. to resolve outstanding concerns before any further action is taken.
The meeting underscored the Assembly’s commitment to addressing the concerns of traders while ensuring that the ongoing infrastructure development does not unnecessarily undermine livelihoods and economic activities at the Naa Amui Market.
