MCE & MANAGEMENT SOLIDARIZE WITH COMMUNITY 22 POLYCLINIC STAFF AFTER ASSAULT ON MIDWIFE

The management of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, led by Hon. Municipal Chief Executive Mr. Freeman Tsekpo, paid a courtesy call on the staff of Community 22 Polyclinic to solidarize with them following the assault of a Senior Midwife by a client’s relative on 2nd June 2026.

Security officers responded swiftly. The suspect was arrested, arraigned before a competent court, and convicted of battery and assault. He was fined, made to sign a bond of good behavior, ordered to pay compensation to the victim including other punitive measures.

Mr. Tsekpo commended the clinic for engaging a professional psychologist to assess the victim and provide trauma support. He welcomed the court’s swift delivery of justice and cautioned the public against resolving issues through violence. “Violence in any form will not be condoned in this municipality,” he stated.

He assured the facility’s management that the Assembly is committed to protecting lives and property, and that staff safety remains paramount. He reiterated the Assembly’s strong stance against attacks on health workers, be it public or private facilities.

The Municipal Health Director, Dr. Sophia Quist, and the Polyclinic’s Medical Superintendent, Dr. Godfred Takyi, thanked the MCE and his entourage for their solidarity and concern for staff, client, and facility safety.

Dr. Takyi briefed the MCE on the clinic’s plan to convert a 12-unit disability-friendly toilet block into office accommodation, due to infrastructural deficits. Units including Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat, Audit, Pharmacy, and Human Resources currently are constrained with office space. The team inspected the structure for its suitability as a conference hall, training center, and offices.

Mr. Tsekpo advised management to finalize a proposal and submit it to the Assembly for consideration. The visit concluded at the Outpatient Department, where the team encouraged staff and assured them of a safer, more secure working environment.
