Fire Guts Ashaiman Main Market
A portion of Ashaiman Main Market was gutted by fire in the early hours of Saturday 16th September 2023. It took the intervention of Ashaiman Fire Service to quench the fire with their fire tenders. According to the security men at the market, the fire started at 12:45 a.m. when they cited smoke from the onion sellers’ area and they tried to quench the emerging fire but to no avail.
According to the Municipal Fire Officer, it took them two and a half hours to bring the fire under control. The cause of the fire according to him is not known as investigations are ongoing, he said.
The Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Albert Boakye Okyere on Monday 18th September led the team from the Assembly to inspect the extent of the damage caused by the fire and to sympathize with the affected traders.
The Queen Mother of Ashaiman Main Market Madam Leticia Ayaba said she received a call from the security men at the market and she quickly called the fire service. She briefed the delegation about her effort to register the names of the affected traders for onward submission to the Assembly for necessary action.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Albert Boakye Okyere on his part sympathized with the affected traders and assured them of the Assembly’s support and the reconstruction of the affected areas in the market. ”We are waiting for the report from the fire service for necessary actions to be taken and the provision of other logistical needs of the traders” he opined. Those who accompanied the Municipal Chief Executive include; Alhaji Saaka Dramani, Municipal Co-ordinating Director, Hon Azogi A. Ananga, Residing Member, Some Assembly Members, Personnel of Ghana Fire Service, and Staff of the Assembly.
