MCE VISIT TO WASTE TREATMENT PLANT AT IDA – ROMAN DOWN
The Municipal Chief Executive of Ashaiman Municipal Assembly Hon. Albert Boakye Okyere on March 22nd 2021, visited waste treatment plant under construction at IDA – Roman Down to acquaint himself with the progress of work. He was accompanied by the Municipal Coordinating Director of the Assembly, Alhaji Saaka Dramani.
Hon Albert Boakye Okyere and his entourage were taken round the facility by the site manager Mr. Michael Owusu Agyemang.
In his brief address, the MCE stated that the construction of the Simplified Sewerage System and Sewage Treatment Plant at Ashaiman New Town will complement the Assembly’s effort to reduce open defecation in the Municipality.
The simplified Sewerage System and Sewage Treatment Plant which is at on advance stage of construction is a World Bank funded Greater Accra Metropolitan Area Sanitation and Water Project (GAMA SWP) designed to increase access to improve sanitation and water facilities in low income communities.
Hon Albert Boakye said the facility would serve approximately 4800 households within the Ashaiman Newtown and TDC Quarters area. He expressed his gratitude to World Bank and the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resource for GAMA SWP.
“This intention would support the Assembly’s effort to reach several households in the Municipality with improved sewerage system to improve sanitation in an area now considered a low income urban communities”, he emphasized.
Mr. Michael Owusu Agyemang, the site manager said the project is in advance stage of completion since the installation of some tanks and extend works have been completed. He indicated that the facility would ensure an effective and efficient management of raw faecal matter in an environmentally – friendly manner, and also produce organic compost for agricultural purpose.
