Freeman Tsekpo, held its meeting to review progress on school infrastructure, sanitation, examinations, and security across the Municipality. The meeting, held on Tuesday, 18th August 2026, brought together representatives of the Christian Council, Islamic Council, PTA, GNAT, the Ashaiman Divisional Council, Private Schools, and the Ghana Education Service, alongside Assembly officials.

The Education Directorate informed the Committee that the 2026 BECE results have been released, with candidates recording an average overall performance, while private schools also performed creditably. The MCE reported that construction of the Ashaiman Presby School Block is progressing steadily, with one section at the roofing stage, and expressed confidence that the project would be completed and handed over by the year-end.

On infrastructure, the MCE disclosed the Assembly’s long-term vision to redevelop the Cluster of Schools with 3-storey, 18-classroom blocks, to end overcrowding and eliminate the shift system Municipality-wide, with a design team already tasked accordingly.

The Municipal Engineer also briefed the Committee on efforts to revive abandoned GETFund projects, including 3-, 6-, and 12-unit classroom blocks through an inventory and costing exercise to secure their release for completion.

On sanitation, schools are to champion waste segregation following the ASHMA forum held on 30th July, with the Assembly partnering Smart Plastics Recycling Limited and Safisana Ghana Limited for free collection of segregated waste.

The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to closing infrastructure gaps, improving school safety, and driving sustainable sanitation practices, as the Municipality works towards ending the shift system and ensuring every child of school-going age is in school.

ASHMA/ISD/MEDIA/18TH AUGUST
