The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has organised a National Labour Migration Readiness Campaign in Ashaiman to educate young people on safe, skilled and successful labour migration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme forms part of government\u2019s broader efforts to address unemployment and create sustainable job opportunities for the youth through initiatives such as the Adwumawura Programme, the 24-Hour Economy and the 1,000 Coders Programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The campaign brought together young people, representatives of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, the Ghana Immigration Service, Absa Bank, the media, political party executives and members of the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

YEA explains purpose of campaign<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the event, the District Director of the YEA, Mr Karim Iddrisu, said the programme was organised to provide the youth of Ashaiman with information on the opportunities, procedures and requirements associated with labour migration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He encouraged participants to pay close attention to the presentations and engage actively in the discussions to enable them to make informed decisions about travelling abroad for employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Regional Director of the YEA, Alhaji Mohammed Judah, said the government was committed to reducing unemployment and had identified labour migration as one of the interventions capable of creating employment opportunities for young Ghanaians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He urged the participants to take advantage of the programme and avoid unlicensed agents and fraudulent institutions that exploit young people under the pretext of securing jobs abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ashaiman to benefit from programme<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hon. Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Dr Ernest Norgbey, expressed appreciation to the YEA for selecting Ashaiman to host the campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He described the initiative as a new programme introduced with the intention of creating opportunities for the youth. He urged beneficiaries to use the opportunities responsibly and help promote the programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Norgbey also dismissed claims that residents of Ashaiman had not benefited from government employment initiatives. He stated that he was aware of 30 people from the municipality who were benefiting from such interventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He thanked the organisers and participants and encouraged the youth to take full advantage of the information provided during the programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assembly to establish support desk<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hon. Municipal Chief Executive of Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, Mr. Freeman Tsekpo, described the campaign as important to the municipality and expressed his commitment to ensuring that residents benefit from the initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the Assembly would establish a desk to assist prospective labour migrants with travel documentation and other logistical requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, the desk would help facilitate the travel arrangements of young people seeking legitimate employment opportunities abroad through the YEA programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials caution youth against fraud<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Coordinator of the YEA Labour Exchange Programme, Mrs Leticia Eyram Latekla, said the Youth Abroad Programme was designed to support young people, especially those engaged in artisanal work, who intended to travel abroad in search of employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She explained that the programme would assist eligible applicants with their travel arrangements. She added that the YEA had partnered with Absa Bank to provide financial assistance and banking services to beneficiaries, including the creation of accounts to facilitate the management of funds while abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mrs Latekla urged the youth to use the official channels provided by the YEA instead of seeking assistance from unlicensed intermediaries and fraudulent organisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A representative of the Ghana Immigration Service also educated participants on the procedures for acquiring a Ghanaian passport. He directed applicants to the official passport application portal, passport.mfa.gov.gh<\/a>, and cautioned them against acquiring passports through illegal means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stated that the current passport application fee was GH\u00a2350 and advised prospective migrants to comply with immigration laws and regulations when travelling or residing abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A representative of Absa Bank, Mrs Claudia, assured the youth that the bank was available to support them with their financial transactions and other banking needs before and during their travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme ended with further discussions and interactions between the facilitators and participants on safe migration, passport acquisition, financial management and legitimate employment opportunities abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
