Three student teams from Ashaiman Municipality paid a courtesy call on the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly on Monday, 23rd June 2026, to present their innovative projects ahead of the Ghana Science and Tech Explorer Prize (GSTEP) finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The finalists, drawn from Ashaiman No. 4 Junior High School and Blessed Clementina R\/C Basic School, are competing in the Greater Accra Region leg of the national STEM challenge. The teams are Innovepoch, Envy Brigade, and Green Gen. Each team presented its project to the Municipal Chief Executive and other dignitaries present. GSTEP requires students in groups of 4-6 to develop practical solutions to community problems using Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The competition is running across Greater Accra, Volta, Eastern and Ashanti Regions, with the grand finale slated for 9th-10th July at Legon, the Cedi Conference Centre, Accra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Ashaiman, 24 teams initially entered. Five advanced to the semi-finals, and three emerged as municipal finalists. A total of 60 teams is competing nationally.Blessed Clementina R\/C Basic School is represented by two teams, as schools are allowed multiple entries. The students also appealed for public support in the People\u2019s Choice Award category. Voting is via short code *447*184# at GHS 1.00 per vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PROJECT PRESENTATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ashaiman No. 4 JHS, named \u201cInnovepoch\u201d, presented a project called ENERSAVE. It is an energy consumption monitoring device designed to help households and businesses track appliance usage and reduce high electricity bills. The team explained that unmonitored consumption also leads to appliance damage. ENERSAVE is affordable, reliable, and promotes electrical safety while protecting household appliances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blessed Clementina R\/C \u2013 Envy Brigade presented \u201cECOPACK\u201d which is a biodegradable packaging bag made from gelatine, pectin, glycerine and glycerol. It is safe for human consumption and decomposes naturally, offering an eco-friendly alternative to plastic bags. The team noted that plastic waste block drains and worsens flooding in Ashaiman, making ECOPACK a timely solution for sanitation and environmental protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blessed Clementina R\/C \u2013 Green Gen, designed \u201cAGRIFLOW\u201d. This is a digital agricultural platform that connects farmers, suppliers, distributors, and buyers. The mobile app helps farmers track produce, reduce post-harvest losses, and access markets directly without middlemen. The team highlighted that about 40% of farm produce is lost before reaching consumers, and AGRIFLOW integrates farming, marketing, and digital tools to address this challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

REMARKS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Municipal STEM Coordinator, Madam Mercy Ameho, commended the students for their innovation and passion. She appealed to the Assembly for transportation support in the form of buses for the students and their supporters to attend the final competition in Accra.The Hon. Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Freeman Tsekpo, praised the quality of the presentations and pledged GHS 500.00 to each team. He assured the students that the Assembly would consider their transport request and congratulated the teachers and mentors for nurturing the students beyond the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Jemima Apedo, and Municipal Education Director, Ms. Gloria Kwakuyi, also applauded the students\u2019 confidence and encouraged them to keep pursuing excellence. The visit underscored the impact of STEM education in Ashaiman, as the students\u2019 projects tackled critical issues in energy management, environmental sustainability, and agriculture.
