The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly distributed livelihood support items to 54 Persons with Disabilities, (PWDs) and three organizations for PWDs in the municipality, at a ceremony held at the Assembly\u2019s forecourt on Friday, May 8, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The items, procured through the 5% allocation for persons with disabilities from the District Assemblies Common Fund, included chest freezers, poly tanks, industrial oven, industrial sewing machines, hair dryers, laptop, printers and economic items. Beneficiaries were grouped into categories for equipment, education, health, and business support based on their needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Freeman Tsekpo said the programme reflects the government\u2019s commitment to improving the living standards of persons with disabilities. He urged recipients to use the items and grants strictly for their intended purposes, noting that a monitoring team would follow up to ensure the support translates into economic relief without delay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hon. Tsekpo cautioned against requests for cash transfers alone, explaining that the Disability Fund is meant for economic empowerment. He advised beneficiaries to apply only for items they are prepared to use immediately for business. \u201cThe economic support must bring about immediate and positive transformation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also directed the Disability Fund Management committee to apply due diligence, stating that the Assembly would not supply equipment to beneficiaries who cannot demonstrate readiness to put it to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Joshua Addy, a representative of the National Council on Persons with Disabilities and Chairman for the Disability Fund Management Committee commended the Assembly for honoring the beneficiaries. He encouraged them to make prudent use of the items to improve their economic conditions and become self-reliant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The distribution was facilitated by Ms. Vida Adjomani, head of Social Welfare and Community Development. It forms part of ongoing efforts by the Assembly to promote inclusion and economic independence for persons with disabilities in Ashaiman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
