Ashaiman, April 26, 2026 \u2014 The Hon. Municipal Chief Executive Mr. Freeman Tsekpo met with residents of Moni Obanye and Nii Komietteh electoral areas on Sunday to address pressing utility and infrastructure concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Utility Challenges<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Tsekpo said rapid population growth has strained services across the municipality. Both electoral areas face frequent power outages and water rationing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The power challenges were attributed to a fire outbreak at GRIDCo, overloaded transformers, and ongoing relocation of poles and cables due to construction works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Water rationing, he explained, stems from residents connecting smaller pipes to main distribution lines, which reduces pressure. Ongoing drainage and road construction have also damaged pipelines, disrupting supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Measures Underway<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hon. MCE assured residents of continuous engagement with utility providers. Affected residents should report power issues to ECG\u2019s toll-free line: 0302-611-611.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To improve water access, a permanent Ghana Water station has now been established in Ashaiman, ending the need to travel to Gbetsile for complaints. The Assembly will also supply water to households in urgent need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roads and Development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Tsekpo said four major road projects secured by Hon. Member of Pparliament of Ashaiman, Dr. Ernest Henry Norgbey are progressing steadily. The President has added the Traffic Light Road to the Big Push Agenda, which is expected to ease traffic for commuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ongoing road and drain works include: Afariwa\u2013Newton Junction, Christian Village to Kofi Nimo enclave, and Fitter Line to Middle East Junction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bye-laws and Sanitation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents were sensitized on Assembly bye-laws covering permits for old structures, unauthorized slabbing of drains, rate payments, plastic waste and sewer management. Mr. Tsekpo urged financial responsibility to support development and appealed for an end to indiscriminate littering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other Issues<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hon. MCE clarified municipal boundaries, noting that challenges in Zenu, Atadika, and the Timber Market fall outside Ashaiman\u2019s jurisdiction despite their proximity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents raised concerns about rising crime linked to poor street lighting. They requested more streetlights, repairs to non-functional ones, and the formation of community watchdog groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assembly Leadership<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Municipal Co-ordinating Director Mad. Jemima Apedo was introduced as the Assembly\u2019s first female Co-ordinating Director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
