The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, carried out a massive clean-up exercise in the central business center to end a week-long clean-up exercise in the municipality. The exercise aimed to desilt drains, collect refuse, and improve environmental sanitation. The market women, youth groups and the community members closed their shops to participate actively in the exercise. Unemployed drug addicts, popularly referred to as \u201cJunkies\u201d came out in their numbers to also support the exercise to its success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The Municipal Chief Executive, (MCE) Hon. Freeman Tsekpo, who has been on the grounds since Saturday 18th January commended the participants for their commitment and dedication to getting rid of filth in the municipality. Staff, management, Assembly Members, youth groups and residents of the municipality have been on a week long clean up exercise to improve upon the aesthetic beauty the city.
Addressing the market women on the 24-hour Economy Market, the MCE allayed their fears of losing their sheds to affluent traders as being speculated across the municipality. The MCE assured them that no trader would lose their shed or stall at the upcoming 24-hour Economy Market. He emphasized that the new market would accommodate all traders, including small-scale vendors such as \u201cMomoni and Peper sellers\u201d. Therefore, the ultra-modern market would rather improve sanitary conditions and bring modernity in their trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


He further admonished the people to obtain permit from the Assembly before slabbing drains in the municipality. This has become crucial as almost all the drains are chocked with filth as a result of indiscriminate slabbing of the drains. He called on property owners who for several years have not acquired permit for their properties to take advantage of a 50% discount on permits for six months. However, permits would revert to original cost after expiration of this grace period. He entreated residents to comply with permitting of their properties for enhanced development of the municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The Member of Parliament for the Municipality Hon. Dr. Ernest Norgbey who also participated in the exercise called for altitudinal and behavioral change towards environmental littering. He thanked the market women and the participants for availing themselves for the exercise.
The market women expressed their gratitude to the assembly and appealed for regular drain desilting and fair treatment by the city guards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
