EMPOWERING PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES IN ASHAIMAN
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ashaiman, Hon. Freeman Tsekpo, yesterday, 19th August 2025, joined partners and dignitaries to mark a life-changing initiative themed “Collaborate to Provide Free Prosthetic Limbs in Ghana.” In his solidarity message, he thanked the development partners for their kind gesture and pledged to secure land, with support from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for an office space to serve the Ashaiman branch of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
Over 500 prosthetic limbs, each valued at about GH₵6,000, were provided through the efforts of the IshK Tolaram Foundation and supported by the Center for Advocacy for PWDs, the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations, and the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled. The initiative, graced by Hon. Edwin Kwaku Andoh of the National Council on Persons with Disabilities, brought renewed hope and dignity to beneficiaries.
The MCE, Hon Freeman Tsekpo emphasized a mindset of possibility, urging recipients to make the best use of the support. He assured that the Assembly’s Disability Committee and the Social Welfare Department will continue to provide assistance, while District Assembly’s Common Fund (DACF) allocations will strengthen welfare. Beyond mobility, this project builds confidence, sparks joy, and inspires the larger vision of establishing local limb-manufacturing services to create jobs and ensure lasting impact.
